small library shut down

Small bookhouses have been springing up all over the country.  Even the schools in Sparta have them.  The boxes contain books that can be borrowed at no cost.  The only request is that the books be brought back when finished with them.  A boy in Kansas loves reading so much that he decided to open his own version of a bookhouse.  His grandfather built a free-standing bird house style structure that could contain a few books.  They placed a bench next to it so readers could sit to read if they so chose.  Complaints from neighbors, however, got the bookhouse shut down.  The family plans to appeal to the City Council.  bookhouse

flag on the moon

Many flags have been placed on the moon during the missions there.  So, what happens to the flags after the astronauts leave?  The flags weren't made to last long but pictures have revealed that the flags are still there.  They are completely white and most are not standing anymore.  As technology advances, we may someday be able to see the flags ourselves.  flags on the moon

How could anyone do this to a puppy?

On a highway in West Virginia, a driver witnessed a puppy being thrown from a car in front of her.  Brittany Gartin not only rescued the puppy but she also caught up to the car and snapped a picture of the license plate.  The driver of that car will be charged with felony animal cruelty.  It's just unimaginable that someone could be so heartless.  The puppy is doing well and will be looking for a furever home.  puppy rescued

Cat lives in airport for a month

Chester was on his way to live with his new owner when he escaped from his crate at the Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport in Canada.  Amanda Stewart started a facebook page and hoped that someone would find her lost kitty.  She became certain that he had hopped on a plane and was long gone or that someone had taken him home.  But after a month, he was spotted by a fence and airport workers captured him.  rescued kitten

MIley Cyrus

Miley is making news and this time it's not because of some flimsy outfit or for twerking.  Caley had Cystic Fibrosis and got to meet Miley a few years back but Caley's battle was nearing it's end.  Miley sent a video message to Caley telling her that she was still praying for her.  The 12-year-old got to see the message just an hour before she passed.  The girl's mother, Teresa, posted the video to facebook and explained that seeing her daughter smile one last time gave her a little bit of comfort.  Caley and Miley

Cheetah and dog become friends

Cheetah's normally have a litter of three to five so when only one cub is born, the mother usually rejects it.  It's thought that she does this because only one cub would not survive in the wild with her.  Introducing a cheetah cub to a domestic dog has been done before so when Ruuxa, a six week old cheetah, was abandoned by it's mother; she was introduced to a seven week old puppy named Raina.  They have since become best of friends and it's hoped that the friendship will carry through to adulthood.  Ruuxa and Raina

My Sharona

There's a true story and a real woman behind that song.  Sharona Alperin got tired of hearing the song but never of the story leading to it.  Doug Fieger was smitten with Sharona from the first time he met her and tried relentlessly to make her his girlfriend.  Years after that first meeting, they finally got together and even though it didn't last, they remained friends until his passing.  The real Sharona

Dog gets spot in yearbook

Rachel Benke has suffered from seizures since she was 6.  She even had a portion of her brain removed to help.  Taxi is a service dog who can detect seizures before they happen and he has been there for Rachel since age 9 protecting her from injury from her seizures.  He's been at her side even in school and so it's only fitting that he be included in the yearbook right next to Rachel.  dog's picture

Westboro met with protest

The Principal at Wilson High School in Washington DC came out as gay during an assembly at the school.  He's received plenty of support from students and parents at the school.  Of course the Westboro Baptist Hate Group is all upset about it and decided to protest at the school.  They announced their plans which gave time for the students to arrange a protest of their own.  When Westboro arrived they were met by a sea of rainbows thanks to students, staff, parents, and relatives.  Good job Wilson High School!!  protest

Florida man's protest

After being given a citation by city code enforcement officials, Brent Greer claims that he was unfairly targeted.  One of his neighbors called in a complaint about a Christmas tree that had fallen over on his porch.  But when the officials got there, they did a full inspection and cited him for trivial things.  He has decided to protest the citation by painting his house to look like the American flag.  He's also going to put a Liberty Bell on the side of his home.  He's been getting a lot of support especially from veterans.  American flag on house

Hero will have an amazing wedding

Another mass shooting hits the headlines but this time quick thinking kept it from being worse.  Students on the campus of Seattle Pacific University helped subdue the gunman before he could hurt anyone else.  Jon Meis happened to be carrying pepper spray and he used it on the shooter which helped bring him down.  A local tv station discovered that Jon will be getting married on June 21 and posted his gift registry to their facebook page.  Generous people have purchased everything on his Crate and Barrel list and there are only a few things left on his Target registry.  They've even posted testimonials about why they decided to send this young couple the wedding gifts.  hero

Rusty's firesuit stolen

Rusty Wallace took some practice laps at Daytona earlier this year.  His firesuit was made to match the suit of Brad Keselowski, the current driver of the number 2 car sponsored by Miller Lite.  Rusty's firesuit went missing from the Team Penske Shop and it is presumed stolen.  Rusty's son has offered a reward for it's return with no questions asked.  firesuit

Brad Paisley's sense of humor

The Westboro Hate Group (Church) was picketing near a concert of Brad Paisley's on June 2.  Instead of ignoring them or confronting them, Brad showed his sense of humor by taking a selfie with them and then posting,
"Westboro Baptist Selfie!! Or west-Burro(ass) selfie. Hopefully they can hear the show out here. We'll play loud. "

another strange pairing

Coco, a maltese, was brought to a shelter in New York City after she was found in a hoarding situation.  She gave birth to puppies shortly after arriving.  A short time later, a kitten was brought in as well.  It had been orphaned by it's mother and wouldn't take a bottle.  Workers at the shelter decided to introduce Coco to Roadhouse (the kitten).  The took to each other immediately.  Coco and Roadhouse

what do you do with your newborn at your wedding?

Shona Carter-Brooks decided to strap her newborn to the train of her dress and drag the daughter down the aisle.  Some in attendance are saying that it was a very positive and moving experience but most think the newlyweds should be reported to child protective services.  baby on train
