What happens to the used soap and shampoos left behind in hotel rooms? Of course it's thrown away. But in many hotels now, it is being recycled and given to those who wouldn't normally have it. Shawn Seipler started "Clean the World" 6 years ago. Soap is collected, disinfected, melted down, and made into bars of soap to be donated. soap

big fish
There's a very big reason not to release your pet fish into a nearby waterway. The fish may look lonely in it's little bowl but it really doesn't need the friends down at the lake. Most fish grow to their environments which means that if that small koi or goldfish is now in a lake, they're going to adapt. They can introduce parasites that can harm other wildlife and they can eat their way through the ecosystem. goldie

standing guard
Armed guards stand watch over valuables. Sudan is the last male northern white rhino and needs to be protected. He is the only thing that can keep the northern white rhinos from becoming extinct which makes him very valuable. Sudan's horn has been removed so that he is not as attractive to poachers. But still the guards must put themselves in the line of danger every day to protect Sudan. rhino

squishy belly
Pink is the latest victim of fat shaming. Why, oh why, must this continue? We are all different...if we weren't, life would be boring. Fat shaming isn't doing anything good for anybody. Just stop...put your efforts into something that will benefit everyone without singling out people and making these rude comments. I just love, love, love Pink's response.
“I can see that some of you are concerned about me from your comments about my weight," she wrote. "You’re referring to the pictures of me from last night’s cancer benefit that I attended to support my dead friend Dr. Maggie DiNome. She was given the Duke Award for her tireless efforts and stellar contributions to the eradication of cancer.
"But unfortunately, my weight seems much more important to some of you," she added. "While I admit that the dress didn’t photograph as well as it did in my kitchen, I will also admit that I felt very pretty. In fact, I feel beautiful. So, my good and concerned peoples, please don’t worry about me. I’m not worried about me. And I’m not worried about you either:)…I am perfectly fine, perfectly happy, and my healthy, voluptuous and crazy strong body is having some much deserved time off. Thanks for your concern. Love, cheesecake.”
Pink also told her young daughter that she has a squishy belly because she's happy. We sure need more messages like this so our young girls don't hate their bodies and carry that through to adulthood. Pink

how to catch a shark
In Florida, a bobcat shows how it's done by jumping into the water on top of a shark and dragging it to shore. Unfortunately the bobcat was spooked and ended up running off without it's prey. The shark managed to make it back to the water and swam off. shark

body found on I-90
A body was found just off I-90 near Albert Lea, MN. A landowner discovered the remains and called 911. There are no reports of missing persons in Freeborn County so authorities are hoping someone will come forward with information and/or DNA from their missing loved one. The body has been sent to the crime lab in Ramsey County. A ring and clothing were found with the remains which was a short distance from a gas station. Authorities are expecting foul play because an able person could've walked to the station. body
build fort...pay hefty fine
A father in Ogden, Utah just wanted to build something that his kids would enjoy. Remembering how much he loved forts when he was a kid, Jeremy Trentelman decided to use discarded boxes to build an awesome fort for his two kids. It is held together with tape and a whole lot of love. It even has a slide at one end. He was quite proud of his accomplishment until the City of Ogden sent a letter telling him to remove the "junk" from his front yard. He's got until April 13 and has decided to wait until the last minute to take it down. fort

cat music
A cat cafe in New York has started playing specially made music for the felines that reside there. The cats have shown a lot of interest in the speakers that play the music. They will rub up against the speakers, purr, and some even fall asleep near the sounds. David Teie composed the music using notes that match sounds most used by cats. music for cats

lucky dog
Mr. Zhang, a driver in China was traveling fast when he hit a dog. He assumed the dog had been killed or had run off so he didn't get out to investigate. A couple hundred of miles later, he heard barking coming from under his car. When he looked, there was a puppy stuck in the grill of his car. He drove to his hometown to a vet's office to have the dog removed. The puppy is going to be fine and Mr. Zhang has decided to adopt it. 248 mile trip

salad bar
What happens to the fruits and vegetables that are being served at schools. In some areas, the students throw away a majority of the healthy foods. I work at an elementary school and I see this first hand. If parents only knew what their kids weren't eating, they'd be upset about the money they're spending. Some places are sending the leftovers to farms where the animals are enjoying the school meals. At least it's being eaten. wasted food

A living building
In Italy, developers have built a living building. Trees and plants are placed all over the property to help with producing oxygen, absorbing carbon dioxide, reducing air pollution and noise, and residents will see all of the changing seasons. Units are on sale for $700,000 and up. floating trees
