dowry
A man in China is looking for a wife and he has a strange dowry to offer. It's a 176 lb. 'magical mushroom that prolongs life.' He found the mushroom in a pond and plans to sell it so that he can afford a wife. That's the strangest dowry I've ever heard about. giant mushroom

robots
We've all seen the sci-fi movies about the robots that take over the world. That could be closer to reality than any of us wants to believe. A robot in Russia that has artificial intelligence and can learn from it's experiences has escaped twice. Even though it has been reprogrammed twice, it still escaped. The creators never thought that it would yearn for freedom when they gave it the ability to avoid obstacles. The robot may have to be scrapped because of the escapes. AI

Men in Black
A county in Iowa is being terrorized by some Men in Black. They appear at night on desolate roads which is freaking out the local residents. Stepping out from the side of the road, they approach the passenger side door of the vehicle. People have been reporting the incidents of the black trenchcoat-wearing men for weeks. Police have no clue who they might be or what their intentions are and have been asking the public for help in identifying the men. spooky

Barney
A teenager was going to pull a prank on her friends so she put on a Barney head from a costume. The prank was on her though because the head slipped down over her shoulders and trapped her inside. Luckily her friends drove her to a fire station to have the head removed. If she weren't tired of Barney before, she probably is now. stuck

It's gone
I love visiting Las Vegas. The Riviera was one of my favorite places. We used to attend dart tournaments there, have dinner in the buffet, and play slot tournaments that only cost $20 and ended in everyone at least earning a gift. That's all gone now. The Riviera closed in 2015 and one of the towers was imploded last night with the rest of the buildings to be demolished at a later date. So many memories went down with that building. It's sad to see the "old Vegas" go away. RIP Riviera

was he gay?
When I heard about the shooting in Orlando, my first thoughts went out to the victims. This is such a horrific tragedy and I pray that everyone involved gets the peace they are seeking. I had a discussion with my son about it and the fact the the shooter visited the nightclub several times. Witnesses say that he would sit in the corner, drink, and sometimes get loud. Another person claims that he would try to find a date and/or dance with other men.
I initially thought that the shooter was conflicted about his own sexuality and wasn't actually angry with the people at the nightclub but perhaps angry with himself. Now the FBI may be investigating if the shooter indeed had trolled gay sites on the internet looking for a date and had gone to the club to find men. Orlando tragedy

smiley face stamps at school
A father is upset that his son came home from school with a smiley face stamp on the back of his hand. The words "I need lunch money" was under the face. He claims that this is a form of bullying and shaming kids who don't have any money. The school sees it differently though. The Principal says that the stamp isn't the first request for owed lunch money. And if a parent doesn't want their kid "stamped," they can ask the school to refrain from doing it.
My job at a local elementary school is Nutrition Secretary...I'm the one in charge of that stamp. I hate giving it to the kids but some of them ask for it. I prefer to let the school handle the money details with the parents because I don't think kids should have to worry about things like that.

Siri
iPhone's Siri is credited for helping save the life of a baby that stopped breathing. The girl's mother found that her baby had stopped breathing and began resuscitating her. She saw her iPhone and said, "Hey Siri, Call the ambulance." That gave her the opportunity to focus on the baby instead of trying to dial the phone. iPhone to the rescue

left turn
Gilbert Chlewicki designed an interchange that makes dangerous left turns obsolete. It's called a diverging diamond intersection and it makes it safer for drivers and pedestrians. Looking at the picture, I couldn't really figure out the concept but after I watched the video explaining it, I can see how this is far better than the traditional intersection. safer left turn

A Russian couple has dinner every night with a 300 pound bear. They adopted him when he was only 3-months-old and claim that he is so domesticated that he even cuddles with them. The 7 foot tall dinner guest joins them at the table and watches tv with them in the evening. He also helps water the flowers. pet bear

LEGOs
LEGOs are something that most kids love to have in their box of toys. So when a 7-year-old went to a LEGO exhibit, he decided to play. What resulted was the destruction of a $15,000 statue. The exhibit had only been open about an hour when it went down. The artist had spent 3 days and nights painstakingly putting Nick the fox from Zootopia together but he declined to make the parents pay for the damage. Nick the fox
