Huge tip

Bob Erb and his wife were traveling to bury his father's ashes when they happened upon a cafe named the Old West Express Diner.  They had lunch and met the owner.  After striking up a conversation, they learned that the owner's daughter had just been diagnosed with cancer.  On the return trip, they stopped at the diner again...this time to leave a tip...for $10,000.  Bob Erb had won $25 million in the lottery and has given money to others before.  $10,000 tip

father's letters make it to his son

69 years late but they made it.  The two letters' journey took them from Italy to Australia and through a stamp dealer's hands but Chris Kunellis now has them and he is thrilled.  He has gotten an insight into his parents' relationship and said that it was almost like being a child again.  letters

forgotten Sandy victim

A homeless man drowned during Hurricane Sandy but wasn't discovered until months later.  He had been living in a small trailer on a small abandoned lot.  No one knew he was there until his body was discovered which raised the death toll to 44.  Neighbors remember 62 year old Keith Lancaster.

How are they doing that?

Children are climbing the walls, people are reading on window ledges, and skateboarders glide along a brick ledge half way up a building.  How is this possible?  The pictures are great and inspire smiles.  See how it's done

Deer can stay

A family in Michigan had rescued a deer when it's mother was hit by a car and killed.  They have raised it as a pet but there's a law in Michigan stating that only licensed rehabilitators can keep wildlife.  The deer was taken from the family but a judge has ruled that with the proper permits, the family may keep the deer.  pet deer

Glory Lee Wright was driving when he saw a toddler on the tracks.  There wasn't an adult around and Glory knew that a train was coming.  He instinctively stopped his car and grabbed the toddler from certain death.  The child was returned to it's parents who had left their child with a relative.  The relative was, however, unable to care for the child because of complications from medications.  Lucky child

big spider

A meteorologist freaks out because of a very large spider.  Actually the spider wasn't even in the studio but it was on the camera lens and looked bigger than it was.  She had to be coaxed back on camera to finish her broadcast.  I would've been afraid too.  very large spider

Airline CEO is nice guy

Airlines don't get much good press lately so when a CEO does something nice, it's huge.  The CEO from Delta gave up his seat on a flight for a mother who needed to pick up her daughter from a diabetes camp.  She wrote a very heartfelt letter to the CEO, Richard Anderson, and commended him and his airline for being great.  She was able to spend the day with her daughter because of Delta.  Richard Anderson

Pot is bad

I've heard many times how pot is not as bad as alcohol but I just don't believe it.  Now there's a study that shows I've been right all along.  Researchers have found that mice given THC can't complete tasks that they normally would be able to do and that it causes brain inflamation.  The researchers say that more studies are needed to learn the extent of the damage.  pot is bad

graduation surprise

When Kacy Watson was asked to walk at the end of the line for graduation, she complied even though she wanted to walk with her friends.  But as she approached the stage, she was pulled off to the side and thought perhaps she was getting an award.  Then it was time for her to receive her diploma and was shocked to see her brother standing there.  It had been over a year since she'd seen him and was led to believe that he wouldn't be able to make the ceremony.  He flew in the night before and would leave the next day for Japan.  nice graduation surprise

Graduation cake fail

Laura Gambrel didn't want a big graduation party because she was returning to the University for grad school.  Her mother decided to get her a cake anyway.  When Mom ordered the cake, she instructed the young man behind the counter to put a picture of her daughter on the cake and try to add a graduation cap on her head.  What they got was a beautiful cake with the red and white colors from the University along with the smiling face of the daughter on the cake.  Sounds good so far...but then there was the cap...ummm...I mean the cat added to the picture.  That's right; there's a graduation "cat" on her head.  Mom decided to keep the cake as it was and all had a good laugh. graduation cake

Little girl takes on Westboro Baptist Church

The Westboro Baptist Church is well known as a hate group.  They're the ones that protest military funerals.  They're saying that the Oklahoma tornado victims died because they were sinners.  It's an evil group disguising itself as a church.  But a 5-year old is not afraid and she set up a pink lemonade stand across the street from the church.  Members of the church tried getting her shut down by calling the police and when that didn't happen, they resorted to foul language and shouting as if they were small children throwing temper tantrums.  Time to grow up!  The 5-year old selling the lemonade was more mature than the church members.  The kindergartner has now raised more that $5000 for "spreading messages of love and peace."  Jayden Sink

comparing Willie Wonka's

Two actors celebrate their birthdays this week and both have played the same character in a movie.  Which Willie Wonka is better?  Gene Wilder made the character come alive in 1971 and Johnny Depp revised it in 2005.  Wilder made the character loveable whereas Depp was more detached.  An expert weighs in on how they stack up.  Two Willie Wonka's

horrible photoshop

Melissa McCarthy is huge at the box office.  She just happens to be plus size but that in no way describes who she is.  Her films are some of the biggest grossing films which means that her size has nothing to do with her ability.  Her new film with Sandra Bullock, "The Heat," comes out next month.  The problem is the publicity poster.  Someone in their infinite wisdom decided that several pounds must be removed from Melissa's face.  She is pretty much unrecognizable in the retouched photo.  What is wrong with some people?  Melissa is beautiful, talented, smart, and funny--why isn't that enough?  When will society get over judging people on their size?  poster fail

The Game of Life

An island in Japan resembles the board game Life and will be used as a life-size playing field.  It will cost $5 to play and even the bus that transports players will have cardboard pieces on top that resemble the plastic people in the game.  The island will have spinners and other signature pieces throughout the life-size game.  The Game of Life

Chewbacca has his lightsaber scrutinized by TSA

fairytale marriage

They met when she was 18 and now she's 81 but Cynthia Riggs knew that 90-year-old Howard Attebery was the one for her.  She visited him and he proposed that same day.  The meeting happened because Howard sent a coded message to Cynthia just like they had done years ago.
They got married in May and don't plan to waste any of the time that they have left.  fairytale marriage
