fire rescue

In Lacey, Washington, firefighters were able to put out a blaze in a mobile home.  When they entered the house, they found two adult hamsters and three babies near death from smoke inhalation.  Because they had a "Pet Emergency Guide," they were able to put it to use to save the hamsters.  Tiny oxygen masks were used and luckily four of the hamsters survived thanks to the actions of the Lacey Fire Department.  I think they went above and beyond!!  Kudos to the Lacey WA Fire Department.  hamsters

new drinking game?

I saw several people at the Mapleleaf Parade that had empty beer cans taped together with duct tape.  I wondered what it was all about so I did some searching and found that it is a beer drinking game called Wisest Wizard.  When I asked a couple parade goers about the cans, they just said that they were full at one time but now they're empty.  They didn't really explain why they had all those cans taped together.  Maybe they didn't know it was an actual game.  Wisest Wizard

Stewart cleared

The Grand Jury has found that Stewart did not have intent when he hit and killed fellow driver, Kevin Ward Jr. Even though he won't be indicted on manslaughter charges, the family vows that the fight is not over.  This opens up speculation that they will file civil charges against Stewart.  no indictment

traffic jam

A traffic jam became a "traffic jam session."  Motorists were stopped for about an hour due to an accident.  Two of the people in the highway parking lot were drum musicians and they broke out their instruments to make the time pass.  Other drivers danced and even did the limbo.  They were somewhat disappointed when traffic started moving again.  You can watch the video here: highway jam

dog and it's angel

A dog named White Boy fell into a river and was struggling to get out.  When rescuers got to him they found a manatee behind him seemingly watching over him until his rescue.  The manatee looks like an angel calmly waiting behind the dog letting him know that he is not alone.  As an officer grabbed the dog, the manatee swam away with the flip of it's tail.  angel

fake cell towers

There are towers around the country that seemingly don't belong to anybody.  These towers can access your phones even turning ones on just to get information from them.  As of now, it's not known who owns them or what they are doing with the information that is gathered.  fake towers

tragic ending

I've never been a fan of the ice bucket challenge.  And now someone has died because of one.  A firefighter who was helping a Cambellsville, KY University band film their challenge was electrocuted when their ladder came too close to a power line.  Two others on the ground were also injured but have been released from the hospital.  sad end to challenge

floating swimming pool

A pool will float in a dirty river and filter that water into the pool where swimmers can enjoy the clean water.  It sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie but is actually in the development and testing phase already.  new pool concept

radar gun for texting?

There's a company called ComSonics that claims to be developing a radar gun that can detect if someone is texting while driving.  It will read radio frequencies.  Questions are flying about whether or not it will be able to read a person's texts as well.  And how will it detect if it's a driver or a passenger doing the texting?  What will the legal implications be?  texting

strange theme parks

There are a lot of theme parks in the world.  It seems there's something for everyone.  But who would expect a park in an old nuclear power plant?  Or one in an old Russian prison?  Check out these odd parks

pumpkins

A pre-school class in New Mexico had cultivated a garden of pumpkins.  They had 4 pumpkins in their garden which were about to turn orange.  Over the weekend, someone stole their pumpkins and wrecked their vines.  The students aren't mad at the thieves but simply want to know why they didn't ask.  They would have gladly given them the pumpkins.  Since the story came out, the school has received donations of pumpkins.  And a Boy Scout Troop wants to help with a pumpkin drive.  stolen pumpkins

honoring a boy scout

Noah Cornuet was on his way to becoming an Eagle Scout.  It's the highest rank that a boy scout can achieve.  Noah died after football practice when he was only 16 from an undiagnosed heart problem.  So he never finished his Eagle Scout project.  His troop has finished for him and is now hoping that he will be awarded the rank posthumously.  Eagle Scout

fences are there for a reason

NASCAR has installed fences around all of it's tracks to keep fans safe from flying debris.  Who would've thought that a fan would need to be kept in the fan area by that very same fence?  A fan climbed to the top of the fence on Saturday night at Richmond and sat calmly watching the race beneath him.  He was finally coaxed down by authorities but not before he slowed the race.  I think it's probably good that authorities got to him before angry fans did.  That guy is way beyond crazy!  fan climbs fence

haunted house

A family in Utah rented a house through American Homes 4 Rent.  They weren't told anything about the home's background which was owned by the Powells.  Susan disappeared and has never been found.  Josh, her husband, killed their two sons and himself and the brother, Michael also killed himself.  Both Josh and Michael were prime suspects in Susan's disappearance.  But soon after the rental family moved in, strange things started happening.  The garage door opened and closed on it's own.  The family's 1-year-old was found talking to someone on an empty swing saying, "Go away, leave me alone!"  And the mom hears someone crying when she's taking a shower.  These things have forced the family to flee the home.  haunted

deer on Golden Gate Bridge

Two deer took a leisurely stroll on the Golden Gate Bridge and brought traffic to a crawl.  The deer managed to leave before police could arrive.  But plenty of pictures were posted to social media of the spectacle.  deer

volcano diving

Would you do it if you had the chance?  Two explorers did and they lived to tell the tale.  They even went in with cameras to document their adventure.  One of them called it a "window into hell."

Elvis Explosion

This past weekend was the Elvis Explosion at the LaCrosse Center.  I'm not a huge Elvis fan but I do love watching a good performer.  ETA Brad Boice has become a friend  because one of my best friends, Cheri, is a huge Elvis fan and Brad's fan club president.  I got to see him perform on the big stage--wow!!  He is so talented.  The other headliners were amazing as well.  The sound, lights, and stage were top-notch.  It was definitely a professionally run show.  Kudos to Ronny Craig for that!  The backing band was phenomenal.  I learned that the contestants don't get to practice with the band--they just walk on stage and go for it.  That's a very difficult thing to do.  So the fact that some of them were not very good is not surprising to me.  Some of the contestants were awesome though.  I also discovered that there is an Elvis product out there for everyone.  Including a roll of toilet paper with Elvis' likeness on it.  Who would even use that?  There were clothing items, knick knacks, household items, and books available for purchase.  Elvis' bodyguard was there and he's got a book out that was written by his then girlfriend.  Living in "The Elvis World"  book info
One of the contestants from Kentucky even drove an old collector car to the show and they had it available for pictures with fans.

I even got to see Rod Stewart and Gene Simmons of KISS.

It is definitely a night that I will not soon forget.  I do, however, think I've had my fill of Elvis for quite some time lol.  You can check out Ronny Craig's facebook page for more info on The LaCrosse Elvis Explosion.

sock monster

Do you lose a sock in the washer or dryer?  Is it the sock monster or is it something more sinister?  One family discovered their "sock monster" was their dog.  Yep, the family pet was consuming their socks.  When they took the sick dog to the vet, they had no clue that 43 1/2 socks would be found in his stomach.  The dog is home after surgery and still alive--no other word on his condition though.  eating socks

idiot karaoke host

I despise karaoke hosts who are too stupid to know how to run a fair rotation. I met one Friday night. I signed up for one song--just one song--that's all I wanted to do. I did that at the beginning of the night expecting to sing my one song and then enjoy all of the other singers. The place was very busy and filled with Elvis impersonators so I understand why they were called up to sing. But two songs in a row for each one? That was a bit over the top considering all of the people who wanted to sing. Then this "host" (and I use that term loosely because he sucked at it), put all of his friends up before others. His friends who didn't even walk into the place until last minute. After 3 hours, I voiced my displeasure with him and I walked out.  I should've left earlier but I thought I would give the guy a chance.  And hey, I warned him I was a B***H!  He should've listened lol.  I'm glad that he is not from around this area because I will never go to another one of his shows. Plus, I will never step foot in that bar again because they allowed it. They can sell their $2.50 glass of pop to someone else.

song becoming a tv show

Carrie Underwood has become the most successful American Idol contestant and now one of her songs is going to become a 6-hour television event.  Two Black Cadillacs is about two women who find out that the man they are with is cheating on them.  Two women scorned turns into a murder.  New Fox show

NASCAR race excitement

There's always some sort of excitement going on at a NASCAR race.  But Sunday it was something that is very rarely seen.  At first it was announced that a cat had run across the track.  It was even caught on camera from Kevin Harvick's onboard camera.  He narrowly misses the animal as it runs in front of him.  It was later discovered that the "cat" was actually a squirrel.  The critter escaped unharmed and the race went on.  Such is the unpredictable nature of a NASCAR race.  squirrel video

American Ninja Warrior

American Ninja Warrior is a show on NBC about an extremely challenging obstacle course.  Only the best are able to make it through.  A woman had never done it until Kacy Catanzaro came along.  She was relatively unknown even though she competed in the male dominated sport for two years.  But since she was the first female to ever make it into and complete the finals course, her name is now very well known.  ANW
