time travel

It's only possible in "Back to the Future" to drive a car towards a building and "disappear" just before hitting it.  But that didn't stop a man from trying.  He crashed his Dodge Challenger into a building in his attempt to time travel.  Luckily the building was empty at the time.  idiot

passport to fly in the US

Will your driver's license be enough to board a plane in 2016?  The Federal Government passed a new law 10 years ago requiring states to issue enhanced driver's licenses.  Without these, people will not be able to fly even on domestic flights.  A passport or other government ID will be needed to get through security at airports.  As of the end of 2015, 5 states are noncompliant; many others have waivers that will expire in 2016.  So if you're planning to fly, check to make sure your ID is valid for security.  passports required?

Great Christmas present

A Michigan dad got the best present he could from his children this year.  He's an avid fan of scratch-off lottery tickets so that's what he got.  What he didn't expect was a $300,000 winner.  He plans to use some of the money to send his kids on a spring break trip.  Lottery tickets will be on my wish list from now on.  winner

life size gingerbread house

An Arizona hotel built a gingerbread house for guests to enjoy.  It's free to walk through but can be rented for $150.  Six guests can order food by the fireplace (food not included in the $150 fee though).  The creators took great care in decorating the house inside and out.  The only thing missing is the wicked witch.  gingerbread house

Cops stop Gene Simmons from performing

Gene Simmons was giving a private concert at a pal's mansion when the police showed up to shut it down.  The complaint said that the "noise" could be heard all over LA.  Gene was performing to help raise money for The Children Matter Foundation.  The party didn't end with Gene putting down his guitar.  Instead it continued with a DJ.  concert canceled

911 call

A couple in South Carolina called 911 to report that worms were coming out of the floor of their vehicle and that camouflaged people and possums were coming out of their refrigerator and microwave.  And they had pictures to prove it.  When officers viewed the pictures all they saw was a basketball net and a tree.  The couple claimed that was because the people were camouflaged.  Guess what?  There were drugs involved.  The two were arrested for unlawful use of 911.  idiots

update on Daniel Fleetwood

Daniel was able to watch "The Force Awakens" early.  Disney had an unfinished cut sent to his house so that he could see it before the cancer took his life.  Daniel has always been a huge Star Wars fan and was so grateful to be able to see the movie.  Unfortunately Daniel has passed away.  Superfan

military haircut

When you join the military, you expect certain things.  You become governed by rules and regulations.  If you don't like them, get out.  A transgender person named Chelsea Manning is upset that she has to have a 2 inch hair cut.  Doesn't everybody in the military have short hair?  Or am I mistaken?  My daughter is allowed to have a little bit longer hair now that she's been in for 16 years but it always has to be up and most of it has to be under her cover.  I'm guessing if other women in Chelsea's unit have longer hair, then she has a case but if not, it's time to get out and find a different career.  short hair

werewolf kitty

There's a new breed of cat.  It looks like a werewolf so that's where it gets it's name.  The Lykoi is a new breed of feline that supposedly acts like a dog and looks like a werewolf.  The best of both worlds.  Whether you want a cat or a dog, you can now have both with the Lykoi.  new breed

.19 blood alcohol level

That's enough to put an adult in the hospital so it's not surprising that an infant with that level was rushed to the emergency room.  His mother was frustrated that her teething son wouldn't stop crying.  Her mother's advice was to rub alcohol on the baby's gums.  If a little is good, then a lot should be better, right?  She filled his bottle with Bourbon which left her son unconscious.  She's been arrested for child endangerment and aggravated assault.  idiot mother

Spongebob to the rescue

Daniel's wish

Daniel Fleetwood is a huge Star Wars fan and wanted badly to see "The Force Awakens."  He's no different than other fans except that Daniel has terminal cancer and probably won't live long enough to see the movie in theaters.  His wife launched an internet campaign in the hopes of getting Disney to allow Daniel to see the movie early while he's still strong enough to do so.  Some of the movie's stars even got behind the movement.  Daniel's wish has been granted.  Disney brought an unfinished version to his house so that he could watch it before it's too late.  dream come true

bed bug remedy

Bed bugs are becoming a large problem in this country.  Most pesticides don't work to get rid of them.  They will kill the live bugs but do nothing to the unhatched ones.  So once they hatch, bugs are back.  One woman in Michigan decided to take the problem into her own hands.  She doused her mattress and other belongings in rubbing alcohol to try to kill the pests.  Her stove was on and ignited the contents of the apartment.  Five people were injured and dozens were left homeless because of the blaze.  So far no charges have been filed against her.  bed bug fire

hero dog

A stray dog was rummaging in the garbage at a dump for something to eat.  Instead the dog found a newborn boy dumped in the trash with it's umbilical cord still attached.  The dog gently picked up the baby and carried it to a nearby home and left it with the residents.  The baby is doing well in the hospital and was not injured by the dog.  hero!

New Star Wars movie

Daniel Fleetwood like millions of other Star Wars fans wants badly to see "The Force Awakens."  The difference is that Daniel is terminally ill and may not make it to the day the movie hits the theaters.  He's hoping that Disney will allow him to see the film before opening day.  Even Mark Hamill and John Boyega have joined the movement to let him see it before it's too late.  Star Wars

aurora borealis

We were originally in the "good" viewing area but it looks like we've been downgraded to "fair" so it was difficult to see the Northern Lights.  I didn't get to see them at all.  Maybe it's not dark enough around here or I was too late.  But there's a good picture coming out of Iowa.  Keep your eyes on the sky through the middle of November for an asteroid shower though.  Aurora

divine intervention

Boy, 3, falls from his second story window and survives.  He actually walked away from the fall with only a bruise on his arm.  He landed on a framed photo of The Last Supper.  Dionna Praylow was about to give her son Reginald his bath and had to run for his pajamas leaving him alone for a minute.  When she returned, he was gone.  He had fallen out the window into their backyard.  The framed photo broke his fall.  The Last Supper

witch and warlock battle

They started as friends and business partners but that didn't last.  Lori Sforza is a witch priestess who filed for an order for protection against Christian Day, a self proclaimed warlock.  The judge sided with Sforza and granted her the restraining order with Day stating that he would fight it every step of the way.  Luckily neither one brought out their magic wands or started throwing curses around...yet.  witch/warlock fight

Hocus Pocus

It came out in 1993 and was not an immediate hit but the three witches from Salem have now become a Halloween tradition.  I remember watching it and loving it even back then.  I guess though that most people didn't think the way I did.  It was called an "unholy mess."  After all these years it has grown to be loved by many and there may even be a sequel.  The Sanderson sisters may be back.

Halloween comes early

A Texas woman was renovating her backyard when the workers found a casket.  It was buried in the yard and had to be lifted out by an excavator.  Bones and other items were found inside but luckily they turned out to be dog and cat bones.  DeeDee Oliviera had just purchased the house on Elm Street and was almost living her own nightmare.  casket

Dog finds message

Idris Martin takes his rescue dog for walks along the beach.  Sheba doesn't like chasing after sticks but she loves bringing back bottles that have been thrown.  Martin had just thrown a bottle into the water and Sheba went to retrieve it but instead found something else that was a bit heavy for her to bring back.  Martin had to go into the water to help.  It was a glass bottle with a message inside along with pictures from three children.  The bottle had traveled an amazing 3500 miles before Sheba found it.  Martin is hoping that the three children will return his email.  message in a bottle

The Force Awakens

Pictures, posters, and now the new trailer are out for the new Star Wars movie.  It will hit theaters on December 18.  I have been a huge Star Wars fan since the first one came out.  I remember standing in line about a block long just to get into the theater to see it.  My standing in line days are over but I will certainly go to see this one.  Star Wars

Star Wars flight

It's not the Millenium Falcon but close enough for us earthlings.  All Nippon Airlines has a plane that is decorated like R2-D2.  The first flight was for fans.  The characters on the flight included Chewbacca, some Stormtroopers, padawans, and even some R2-D2's.  Star Wars plane

nightmare for students

In the area of Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge, England, there have been sightings of clowns...and not the kind in parades.  Some students at local schools have reported that they've been chased by two people wearing clown masks.  Someone is pranking kids just to get a scare out of them.  Police in the area are taking the incidents seriously.  That would be one of my worst nightmares.  clowns

Bring them home

Our soldiers come home but sometimes without their friends.  Some don't make it out alive and some are just left behind.  It's the canine heroes that are not considered military and can't be flown home on military transports even though they have put their lives on the line just as their human counterparts have.  But a new bill waiting to be signed by President Obama could change all that.  Please bring our 4-legged heroes home from war so that they can have a furever home with their handlers.  Our retired 4-legged vets deserve the same treatment as the 2-legged ones.  Don't leave them behind to be euthanized.  Save the canines

no charges

Walter Palmer will not be charged in Zimbabwe for the killing of Cecil the Lion.  The Environment Minister says that all of his paperwork was in order for the hunt.  Two others who helped with the hunt will be charged though for luring Cecil out of the protected area.  It's disheartening to me that Palmer will get away with killing a protected animal.  I still think he knew exactly what he was doing and is playing stupid so he doesn't get in trouble.  Zimbabwe will allow him to come back to the country but never again as a hunter.  Guess he'll have to find someplace else to prove his manhood. RIP Cecil

stranded dog

Alex Scroggins was helping his mother and sister get things out of their flooded home in Conway, SC when he noticed the neighbor's dog stranded on the porch.  After making several trips to retrieve belongings, he realized that no one was coming for the dog.  The flood waters were still rising and it wouldn't be long before the dog was swept away to certain death.  Alex rescued the dog who has now been named Lucky and tried to find it a home in a no-kill shelter; but had no success.  The owner knows where the dog is but has no interest in getting it back.  After heartlessly leaving the dog behind, he doesn't deserve it anyway.  Alex has now chosen to adopt Lucky and the dog seems to know how "lucky" it really is.  rescued dog

walking on glass

In China the latest craze is to build walkways made of glass including the one that is at Yuntai Geological Park in Henan Province.  Apparently someone dropped a steel mug and broke one of the panes of glass.  Walkers screamed and headed off the bridge.  A spokesperson for the tourism board claimed that no one was in danger but the bridge is closed until repairs can be made.  Would you be brave enough to walk on one of these?  glass bridge

pizza for wedding

A pizzeria in Indiana made news when they refused to cater any gay weddings.  They had to close their doors for a while afterwards because of all the backlash.  Then a gofundme page was started and it helped them reopen.  Now they have unknowingly catered a gay wedding.  Robin Trevino traveled from Illinois to the pizza place to purchase some pies.  He then placed them in a cooler for the trip back and they were served later at his renewal ceremony with his partner thus making the pizzeria the caterer at his wedding.  Hate to see him spend money at this business but glad he stuck it to them in a way.  pizza

Bully's attacker in trouble

A high school student at Huntington Beach High School is in trouble after beating a blind student in the head.  Another student stepped in to stop the attack.  One punch put the bully on the ground.  Now the hero is being punished for also using violence.  It just doesn't seem like justice is being served.  It's true that violence is not the answer but to punish him for doing what's right doesn't seem to be the answer.  hero

Students at a University in central China saved 7 puppies after seeing security guards bury them alive.  Strays have been a problem at the University and have been subjected to beatings and burials to eradicate the problem.  The students feel there is a more humane way to handle the problem so they were quick to rescue the puppies when they realized what was happening.  Some have criticized them for their actions but animal activists are calling them heroes.  puppies rescued

Vikings mascot

The Vikings no longer have a mascot.  For the past two decades, Ragnar has ridden out on a motorcycle clad in fur for all home Vikings games.  He was paid $1500 for each game and decided that he wanted $20,000 instead.  That's a huge pay raise...the Vikings organization obviously said "no" to him.  So Ragnar is no more.  How about a Ragnarette?  I can ride and wear fur lol.  greedy mascot

dog's life saved

A pilot flying from Tel-Aviv to Toronto realized that the heating system in the cargo hold was not working and he knew that there was a dog down there.  Instead of knowingly letting the dog freeze to death, he diverted the plain to Frankfurt.  His efforts saved the dog's life.  None of the passengers complained about the 75 minute delay and Air Canada is getting lots of praise for the captain's actions.  The dog's owner is extremely grateful to have his "child" back safely.  It cost the airline about $10,000 extra in fuel but an airline spokesperson said that everyone was very understanding especially when they learned that a dog's life was at stake.  saved dog

I hate pranks

Elton John was pranked.  Someone called him claiming to be Vladimir Putin saying that they wanted to discuss gay rights with him.  Of course Elton would be excited about the prospect...who wouldn't be?  But it was all a prank by a couple of comedians who have now admitted to it.  I really don't find this funny and I don't see how they could do something so cruel.  This is just another form a bullying and it has to stop.  prank

restored Corvette

Eighteen months ago, eight Corvettes fell into a sinkhole at the National Corvette Museum in Kentucky.  Some have been restored and some will remain as they were when pulled from the sinkhole.  One Corvette that was destined to be restored is the 1 Millionth Corvette ever built.  It was customized with the signatures of every one who helped build it.  The GM Tech Center in Warren, Michigan has returned the car to the museum completely restored.  30 workers painstakingly studied every detail of the car and used all the parts that could be salvaged.  Even the signatures were saved except for three.  Two of those were scanned and applied to replacement parts.  One was from a worker who was still working for GM so she re-signed the part.  Corvette

conjoined twins

It's not something we hear about every day but 1 in 25,000 to 80,000 pregnancies results in conjoined twins.  Most don't make it.  But one expectant mother in Minnesota is determined to see this pregnancy through.  Hannah, the stronger twin is expected to survive but Olivia is not.  Mom, Amber McCullough, has traveled to Colorado and will be giving birth in about a week.  She's dealing with a whole range of emotions as the birth nears.  twins
