opening night

The Topsy Turvy Television Follies 2 opened last night to a very enthusiastic audience.  Everything went off without a hitch delighting everyone involved.  Tonight will be another fantastic performance at St. Cecilia Theater on the campus of Cotter High School in Winona.  Show starts at 7:30 and tickets can be purchased at the door.  Seating begins at 7:00.  Saturday there will be two performances; 2:00 matinee and at 7:30 pm.  We also will have a Sunday matinee at 2:00.  We're hoping to raise enough money for the Winona Health Auxiliary to purchase "sleeper" chairs for those that have to stay in a hospital room with their loved one overnight.  see a great show

How would you like to run into this while swimming?
It's a Giant Crocodile and it ended up in the surf at Cable Beach in Broome, Western Australia.  The beach was closed for a day for the safety of swimmers and surfers.  Officials hope to capture the croc and relocate it to a wilderness park.  12-foot crocodile

slap in the face

A woman was slapped in the face by a whale.  She was on a whale watching cruise when the boat got too close to one of the creatures and it's tail made contact with her.  The video was posted to youtube so that it could be shared with family members of the group on the boat but it quickly went viral.  epic slap

tiny houses

Madison WI is looking to join Olympia WA, Eugene OR, and Portland OR in building tiny houses for their homeless population.  It's just 99 square feet but it provides a bed, table, storage area, and compostable toilet.  There's no running water and no electricity but it's insulated and has a propane heater to protect the home owners from the cold winters.  tiny living quarters

new member of the Brewers

During spring training, the Brewers have found a new member.  A stray dog wandered onto the team's complex and has become a favorite among the team.  They had it checked out by a vet and if the owner can't be found, the pooch named "Hank" will probably head back to Wisconsin with the team.  Hank

cold swim

I've heard of the polar plunge in many communities where people raise money by jumping into the cold water but they quickly get out and end up in a hot tub.  Once a year and they're done.  In Russia, there's a group of people who do this every week and they stay in for an extended swim.  They say that it improves their health.  It's so cold that they have to cut a square hole in the ice just to get to the water.  winter swimmers

death by tiger

A man was depressed so he jumped into a tiger cage at a zoo in China hoping that the tigers would eat him.  Unfortunately or fortunately (whichever way you look at it), the tigers weren't hungry.  They played with him and dragged him around but none took a bite.  The tigers were tranquilized and the man was rescued.  He's now getting help for his mental health issues.  The guy is very lucky because that would've been a very horrible way to go.  suicide by tiger

student wins anyway

Jack Lavery was chosen to make some shots on the court.  If he made them within the time limit, he would win $10,000.  His name was drawn at random about 3 minutes before having to try those shots.  He signed the contract but didn't have time to read all of the fine print.  After making all of the shots in the time limit, he and the crowd were very enthusiastic about his win.  Unfortunately, he didn't make the mid-court shot on the first try and that disqualified him from winning.  The announcer didn't stop the contest and everything made him think he had won.  Now Pizza Hut has stepped up with the prize money and free pizzas for a year.  They have a program called "go for greatness" and this fit. big win

protest against Westboro Church

It's about time we start protesting this hate group.  Students in Missouri formed a human chain around Mizzou Arena on Saturday to keep members of the Westboro Church out.  Michael Sam and the rest of the Missouri football team were being honored at the basketball game.  The Westboro Church was in town doing more of the hateful things that they do.  The chain of students turned their backsides to the group and kept them from the stadium.  human chain

garbage man delivers garbage truck

An autistic boy named Daniel loved the consistency of the garbage truck coming every week.  He would run out to watch as the cans were emptied and then wave at the driver.  This week it was a bit different.  The driver, Manuel, asked Daniel's parents if he could give the boy a present.  They agreed and Daniel was delighted to find his very own garbage truck in the bag.   see the video

stray dogs

There have been many stories about all of the stray dogs in Sochi and how the Russian Government is dealing with the problem.  A stray dog has been seen at practice for the opening ceremonies, walking up to athletes, and even wandering around in the streets.  Unfortunately it's been reported that a company has been hired to kill the dogs.  Animal right's activists are in an uproar about it and some are taking to smuggling the dogs out of Sochi to save their lives.  rescued dogs

49ers fan gets a chance at new life

He was the lone 49ers fan in a Seahawks parade.  His picture was seen by many but one took a special liking and decided to offer him a ticket to a 49ers game for being so brave.  She is Catherine Tate, the president of a 49ers booster club.  A fund was created for donations to help pay for the costs to get him to the game.  She found though that Ronnie Andrews is actually a homeless teen.  This means that he will not be able to travel across state lines to attend the game so the funds will instead be used as college fund.  lucky teen

Legos

A young girl was not happy with the selection of Legos at her local store.  There were plenty of boy Lego characters that had exciting and fun things to do but the girls were stuck shopping, sitting at home, or going to the beach.  So 7-year-old Charlotte wrote a letter and actually got a response from the company.

colorful igloo

What do you do when it's so cold that water freezes within minutes?  Make an igloo!  A family in New Jersey decided to make a "gem" igloo.  They added food coloring to water and then froze it in aluminum containers to make the blocks.  Then used snow and water to make the blocks stick together.  It all came together nicely to create the colored igloo

no lunch for students

An Elementary school in Salt Lake City, Utah, has made national news for throwing away lunches because students didn't have enough money in their accounts to pay for it.  About 40 students had their trays taken away when they got to the checkout for the lack of funds.  They were then given a piece of fruit and a milk instead.  The school eventually apologized but also said that it is their policy.  We've also got that policy at the school where I work but I have never followed it.  I am the nutrition secretary and in charge of the accounts.  I will not deny a student their lunch even if their accounts are negative.  Could I get fired?  Certainly, but I'll go with my head held high.  lunch thrown away

Budweiser Ad

Winter Park Florida went big when it welcomed home a soldier.  Lt. Chuck Nadd had been in Afghanistan and as he returned home, his surprise started to unfold.  His girlfriend, mother, local VFW, Budweiser, and the whole town were involved.  Budweiser had intended this commercial to be 30 seconds but decided to purchase an additional 30 to make it 60 seconds long so that they could get in more of the footage from the celebration. It will bring tears to your eyes and a lump to your throat.  superbowl ad
