elephant rescue

A young elephant decided to lay down in the middle of a busy road seemingly because it was tired and just wanted to rest.  His rescue came from other elephants.  They came onto the road and kept coaxing the young pachyderm until it finally got up and walked off on it's own.  This shows the great bond that is shared by these intelligent creatures.  elephants

big fish

Jon Black was fishing in his kayak when he landed what could be a record-sized goliath grouper.  He screams like a little girl when he realizes how big the fish is.  The fish was so huge that it broke his pole but he still managed to haul it in.  After it was measured, he released it as the law says that he must.  It is estimated that the fish weighed 552 lbs. making it unofficially the largest ever caught from a kayak. goliath grouper

Marine Corporal, Richard Bennett paid the ultimate price for his country.  The helicopter in which he was riding, went down in Iraq and Bennett didn't survive.  The Westboro Church decided that they were going to picket his funeral but they were met with a barricade of bikers flying flags, blasting music, and revving their engines.  The grieving family never had to see or hear the hateful words coming from the mouths of the group.  salute to fallen

The travels of Princess Kitty

A young girl left her special friend at the Denver International Airport.  She was devastated when she discovered that Princess Kitty was missing.  Her mother sent a message to the airport's Twitter account asking if anyone had found the stuffed animal.  Just a couple hours later, tweets came in about Princess Kitty's adventures.  She got to visit a coffee shop, check out a map of the terminal, and do some people watching.  The lost and found crew at the airport went out of their way to make sure that Princess Kitty had an adventure and took pictures before getting her ready to be returned to her owner.  Princess Kitty

raining spiders

In Australia, millions of baby spiders appeared to be falling from the sky.  There were so many of them that they covered houses and trees.  I would be horrified.  I cannot stand spiders and seeing millions coming from above would send me into a panic.  Scientists say that it's a natural phenomenon that occurs quite often if conditions are right.  spiders

bus mishap

A 7-year old girl was dragged by her school bus when her backpack got caught in the door as she left the bus.  How could something like this happen?  The driver can see through the glass doors and should watch as the children walk away.  Being a crossing guard has taught me to be extra vigilant about the safety of kids.  You never know when one of them is going to dart back across the street for whatever reason.  I watch to make sure they are well onto the next sidewalk before I take that sign down.  The bus driver should've done the same...at least watch until that child's foot touches the sidewalk.  The video is very disturbing.  Thanks to the driver in the red camaro who got the driver's attention.  girl dragged

Would you do this?

There's a theme park in China that has a ride that simulates being cremated.  You get placed in a coffin and ride into the furnace where the sensation of being burned is pumped into the coffin with hot air.  To me, that's not a fun ride.  Would you do it?  cremation ride

Hero dog

Joseph Phillips-Garcia was involved in a car accident where the other three occupants of the vehicle didn't survive.  Only Joseph and his dog Sako came out of it alive.  Joseph was not in good shape; he could barely move.  If it weren't for Sako keeping him warm and protecting him from coyotes, he may not have lived at all.  Sako has been inducted into the Purina Animal Hall of Fame for his efforts.  Sako

military honors

When military personnel retire, they are guaranteed medical care for the rest of their life.  However, when a military canine retires, they are entirely dependent on their adoptive families.  At least they're not left behind anymore.  They're brought back to the states to live out their life with a loving family.
These dogs didn't ask to be in the military, they're drafted and they perform their jobs with great loyalty.  They never question why they're asked to walk into a mine field or why someone is shooting at them.  Many of these dogs develop medical complications resulting from their service to our country yet they are not eligible for any sort of treatment.
Baddy was one of those military dogs who came back to the states to be adopted.  When he developed cancer, he was refused any kind of care from the government even though he protected two presidents.  Baddy's handler became his adoptive parent and spent every dime of her savings to give Baddy some extra time in this life.  Eventually, Baddy succumbed to his ailment and passed away.  The government wouldn't even give Baddy a military funeral.  Now, some may say that it's crazy to think that he should even deserve that but he served his country and DOES deserve at least medical care and a funeral. After all, he never questioned his duties.
The local American Legion stepped up and gave Baddy the funeral service he deserved.  It even included a 21-gun salute.
After reading this story, it took me a minute to compose myself.  It's very heart-wrenching to think that we essentially abandon these heroes after they retire.  Baddy's story

Millennium Falcon

In honor of Star Wars Day: May the 4th be with you, the largest Lego creation of the Millennium Falcon has been built in Australia.  With the help of fans, the creators were able to build it in two days.  It's a project that would normally take more than a week to complete.  Millennium Falcon

May the 4th be with you!

Today is the unofficial National Stars Wars Day.  I think it should be official because I'm a huge Star Wars Geek lol.  Join with me in wishing everyone you meet today a "Happy May the 4th be with you."  Star Wars Day
