beached dolphin

A young calf got separated from it's pod and stranded on a beach in South Australia.  Andy and Jo Wright were at the beach to watch the nearby pod in the ocean when they saw the newborn dolphin on the beach.  The first attempt only ended in the baby getting beached again.  However the second attempt was successful and the calf rejoined it's pod.  rescue

letters

A mother who got trapped in the snow storm in Buffalo writes letters to her children to say goodbye.  Karen Rossi thought she wouldn't get out alive when her car got buried.  It felt like she was underground.  Luckily she was able to dig out and wave her red snow brush which helped her be seen by a passing motorist.  Her daughters do not want to see the letters that she wrote.  goodbye letters

400-pound wedding dress

A designer in Minnesota has created a beaded wedding dress that weighs 400 pounds.  It took 3 years (which was almost 20,000 hours) to complete.  She hopes that it will be featured in a movie and then go to a museum.  She had help from 23 other women and funded the project herself.  heavy dress

soulmates until the very end

Harry and Mavis Stevenson spent their 65-year romance together as much as possible.  The worst part was when he had to go away to fight with the Royal Marines in 1943.  Recently Mavis became ill and had to be moved to a home.  Harry couldn't stand to be without her so he moved in as well even though he was still very healthy.  Mavis passed away on November 3.  Nurses informed Harry who was at her side.  He died within 10 minutes of his wife's passing.  In death, they are still together.  true love

Corey "Thunder" Law

Thunder was at the Phoenix's US Airways Center on Wednesday.  He already has the world record for the farthest basketball shot but this time he did it backwards.  This is his second in the Guinness World Record book.  I had the privilege of meeting him when the Globetrotters were in LaCrosse.  record breaking shot

shark house

There is a shark protruding from the roof of an apartment that is now for rent.  It's in Headington England and is making news again because of the rental listing.  It was put up there to mark the anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bomb in 1986.  There have been many attempts to have it removed but none were successful.  shark

smart baby sea lion

A baby sea lion was being hunted by a great white shark but found a way to get to safety.  Divers were in a cage to watch the sharks and the sea lion joined the divers until the shark swam away.  That's definitely a smart sea lion.  safe in the cage

"tragedy to triumph"

Farming was his first love...then came football.  Hayden Schaumburg was on his high school football team and one Friday night there was a tragedy.  He was involved in a collision on the field.  He went down and didn't get back up.  Hayden had broken his neck.  This meant that he wouldn't be up early in the fields helping his family with the harvest.  Instead the farming community came together and did weeks worth of work in less than a day.  Volunteers started showing up early on that perfect Saturday morning and by mid afternoon, the Schaumburg's harvest was on it's way to market.  Hayden has a long way to go yet but at least he can rest knowing that his fields have been harvested.  Hayden

Mimi...where is she now?

Kathy Kinney was supposed to play Mimi on the Drew Carey show for just a short time but things changed and she became a regular on the show.  She says the cast became like a family to her.  Today she doesn't wear makeup; not even a little blue eye shadow.  She's written a book called, "Queen of Your Own Life" and she can be found reading children's books on MrsP.com as the character Mrs. P.  Kathy

dream basketball game

Lauren Hill just wanted to play on her college basketball team before time ran out.  She has an inoperable brain tumor and doctors don't expect her to live past December.  Her parents contacted the coach and asked if they could move the first game up so that Lauren could play.  They weren't sure she would last long enough to make it to the first game on November 15.  Lauren got her wish; the game was moved to November 2 and she got to play.  She started the game and made a lay-up that they had been practicing for a long time.  The stadium was packed and she got a standing ovation.  She also played in the last few seconds of the game.  She got 4 points total for the game.  Lauren

bridge

A bridge in the Swiss Alps is not for the feint of heart.  It is a suspension bridge between two peaks of mountains.  The bridge will be open year round for all those who dare to cross.  It will give a great view of the Alps.  bridge
