Lost dog returns in time for Christmas

Dogs get lost and returned all the time. This one though was thought to be dead. Stevie Oedipus Wonder was born blind and was abused and abandoned by a previous owner. Stevie was taken in by Belinda Gutierrez earlier this year. He accidently slipped out of the house one day. The landlord claimed that the dog had died but to everyone's surprise, he came home just in time for the holidays. All of this happened thanks to an animal care shelter, a teacher, and craigslist. blind dog

Baby Noel

A newborn baby was left in a box near a church in Philadelphia. She was almost thrown out with the trash but luckily was discovered in time to save her. Homer Keller, an employee of the church, was cleaning up outside and was ready to put the box in the trash when he heard a sound. He thought there was a kitten in the box until he pulled back the cover and discovered the 5-hour old baby. She's doing well but there are no clues as to who her mother might be. baby

Another big donation for the Salvation Army

Someone in Wisconsin dropped a single coin into a red kettle. That is not anything unusual until we get into the story a bit further. The gold coin is worth $1600. The Salvation Army wasn't sure at first that it was real but they were real pleased to find not only that it was real but also what it was worth. gold coin

Cleaning woman makes huge mistake

She cleaned what she thought was a stain from a piece of art worth a million dollars. The artist was Martin Kippenberger who passed in 1997. The piece was on loan from a private collector. Now decisions have to be made...try to restore it if that's even possible...trash it...file charges. That's one thorough cleaning woman--she may get offers for jobs...she might need another one in case she has to pay for the art. That would be an expensive lesson. million dollar oops

Adoption with minutes to spare

11-month old Alyssa wasn't theirs yet but they were determined to make that happen. A young mother had come into their church months before with a newborn that she could no longer care for. She willingly gave her to church members and eventually signed off her rights. After being passed around to different homes, Tracey and Marshall McClain became attached and wanted the baby to be theirs. Unfortunately, Marshall, became ill and didn't have much time left. He was a vietnam vet and wanted his benefits to go to Alyssa but that was impossible without the adoption. Under South Carolina law, if the father is known, he must also sign off rights before the child can be adopted. So, the search began. He was finally located at the Moss Justice Center in York. The McClain's lawyer didn't have 30 days to wait for a response to filing an adoption notice so he went straight to the jail to visit Alyssa's father. The father didn't even know he was one; but after some consideration, decided to sign off. From there, things fell into place. A cancellation became available on the docket, the guardian was also available, as was the woman who did the home study on the McClain's. Court documents were signed at 12:09pm. Tracey phoned home to let them know that Alyssa was theirs. Marshall McClain received the news and 8 minutes later he was gone. emotional adoption

Jimmie Jam in Chicago

I had the most wonderful time on Thursday, September 15. I went to the House of Blues in Chicago for Jimmie Jam. The concert included Edwin McCain and The Bodeans. The music in itself would have made for a fantastic night but to top things off, Jimmie Johnson and Michael Waltrip were there. Anybody that knows me, knows that I am a huge NASCAR fan. But I am an even bigger fan of Michael Waltrip. It was a total surprise that he was there. I luckily got him to pose for a picture with me--I was like a little kid--just giddy. Lowe's and Delta faucets were two big sponsors of the event--so grateful that they were on board.

NASCAR's top 12 Chase contenders are ready to start battle next week for the Championship. Last nights race from Richmond was exciting from start to finish. Two cautions had come out before lap 9. retired firefighter--face of 9/11

Bob Beckwith was already retired 10 years ago when that fateful day happened. He went to help his grandson who had been hit by a car. He stayed with his grandson until the ambulance arrived then stopped by his home on his way to the hospital where he learned about the crashes. At the hospital, along with his family, he learned that his grandson would be fine. His thoughts then turned to what was unfolding at the World Trade Center. His family convinced him for two days that he shouldn't go down there. But on September 13, he learned that a friend's son had not come out yet and he decided it was time to act. He put on his old helmet, an FDNY t-shirt, and talked his way through the barricades. He helped in many ways but the most memorable was when a Secret Service Agent told him to help the "next person" up onto the rubble. That person just happened to be President George W. Bush. Instead of leaving as he had been told by the Secret Service, President Bush convinced him to stay and they had a picture taken together. This picture graced the cover of the New York Post and later Time magazine. After turning down several invitations to tell his story on national programs, Bob finally relented and began making public appearances. When offered money for these appearances, he asks instead that the money be donated to the Burn Center. Bob's story

9/11 close call

A woman was on her way to work on the 77th floor at the World Trade Center. She was running late and had an encounter with Gwyneth Paltrow. They were walking and ended up face-to-face. After doing the back and forth "dance" thing, they laughed and went on their way. When the woman got to the station to catch her train, it was just pulling out. The woman feels those few moments that made her late for the train probably saved her life and credits Gwyneth Paltrow with making that happen. 9/11...10th anniversary

The date has become famous because of the tragedy that happened 10 years ago. It is a day of grieving and remembrance. It is time to take that day back from the terrorists. A couple plans to marry on that day--for them, it will be a day of celebration. Eddie Casinover and Christine Briggs will wed on 9/11 after winning a wedding contest. Musket Ridge Golf Club decided to run the contest to shed light on the fact that most civilians are avoiding doing anything that might be a celebration on that day. I know there are many quotes out there along this thought: Forgetting our past--dooms us to repeat it. My daughter entered the military one week before that fateful day which sent me for a loop. I, for one, will not give in to terrorists and will take back my September 11 from now on. I will never forget that day or those that we lost. 9/11 anniversary
