Hello Kitty

She's so cute but she's not a cat.  This revelation was made on August 27.  Professor Christine R. Yano sent a script for an exhibition to Sanrio.  They corrected her and said, "Hello Kitty is not a cat. She's a cartoon character. She is a little girl. She is a friend. But she is not a cat. She's never depicted on all fours. She walks and sits like a two-legged creature."
Gasp!  I always thought she was a cat and so does Josh Groban among others.  At least now we know the truth lol.  Hello Kitty

Monkey and kitten relationship

At Monkey Forest Park in the Ubud region of Bali, a monkey was photographed cradling a kitten.  A long-tailed macaque monkey looks to be best friends with the ginger kitten.  Other monkeys seem to be fine with the feline hanging around as well.  inter-species relationship

How much would you pay for a grill?

How about $17,695.  Is any grill worth that?  It has all the perks that any grill master could want but at that price, I'd rather cook on my stove.  That much money would buy a really nice car.  So unless you've got almost $18,000 to just toss at a grill, my guess is that you won't be buying it either.  expensive grill

Large parking sign

A parking sign in Culver City near Los Angeles takes up 15 feet of vertical space and is extremely confusing.  The mayor was notified and promised to fix the problem right away.  Even though half the signs were removed, there are still a lot of restrictions that require plenty of signs.  ridiculous parking sign

food at lambeau

Lambeau Field has a donut ice cream sandwich, Bratchos (brats, cheese, and chips), and newly added Horse Collar.  This treat is a 22 inch kielbasa covered in cheese and fried sauerkraut.
It will sell for $20 and is meant for two people.  Minus the sauerkraut--then it sounds good to me. new food at lambeau

NO Ketchup?

What is this nonsense of which you speak?  I love my ketchup...sometimes too much.  But I have to have it for most meats and my french fries.  There's a restaurant in Fort Myers, Florida that refuses to serve ketchup to anyone over the age of 10.  They expect diners to trust them on the taste of their food.  I would pass on this place.  eating without ketchup

New Scooby Doo Movie

Daphne is cursed in the new Scooby Doo movie.  She's devastated because she goes from a size 2 to a size 8...wait...what?  How dare the writers use a body size to denote a curse?  What were they thinking?  It's not bad enough that women have been bombarded with images that cause self-hate, now it's in a cartoon as well?  Some that have seen the movie are saying that it's a good thing because Daphne learns that she is being shallow and Fred says that she is always beautiful to him. How can that be a good thing?  It's still weight bashing and her self worth is tied into how her boyfriend feels about her.  And I still have a problem with her "curse."  I'm not a size 8, haven't been since Middle School, and I'm quite sure I never will be again.  And I think it's a very bad idea to give young girls the thought that gaining weight is a curse.  bad movie idea

wedding jitters

Most people get a little bit of cold feet when it gets close to their wedding.  But one groom took it to the extreme.  He faked his own death just to get out of going to the alter.  He called pretending to be his "dad" and told his finace that "his son" had been depressed and threw himself in front of a car ending his life.  When the bride-to-be called to offer condolences to his mother, she found out that he was alive and well.  I'm thinking the bride is lucky that she found out what a jerk this guy is before they got married.  cold feet

adopting a dolphin

To most of us, a dolphin is a dolphin, but there are differences.  So when one species adopts another, it's a rare event.  Kiwi, a bottlenose dolphin, has been seen nursing an abandoned common dolphin who has been named Pee Wee.  Kiwi lost her own calf when she became stuck in the mud.  She was rescued and 5 years later adopted Pee Wee.  adoption

Alligator at school

A 7-foot alligator decided to make an appearance at a Katy, Texas school.  It was blocking the front doors when an employee showed up.  The police were called to remove the critter and all are hoping that it doesn't come back.  visitor

Fox with dog's toy

A dog left his toy outside and had to watch as another animal played with it.  A fox found the toy and seems to be having a blast with it.  The fox throws the toy and then runs to pick it up again.  Cute video

Obit

One woman's daughters were honoring her wishes when they wrote her obituary.  It starts with "Ding Dong The Witch is Dead."  She loved the movie, Wizard of Oz, so much that she was even buried with ruby slippers on her feet.  witch obit

miracle girl

A 3-year-old girl survived 11 days in the forest in Siberia thanks to her dog.  Her rescue was led by her dog as well.  He left her side two days before she was found and went back to their village.  At that point, hopes of finding her dimmed but the dog led rescuers right to her.  She's being called the miracle girl.  found

Two-headed dolphin

A 3.2 foot two-headed dolphin carcass washed ashore in Turkey.  The man who saw it wash up was at first thinking that his eyes were playing tricks on him and then he was a little freaked out. I'm thinking "freaked out" is a good description of how I would be.  But apparently it's something that can occur in all animals including humans.  dolphin

McPlane

In New Zealand, McDonald's purchased property that included a plane.  It's a Douglas DC-3 which doesn't have an engine and can't fly.  McDonald's has converted it into a 20 seat restaurant where diners can visit the original cockpit.  Entrance is gained through a stairway at the tail of the plane.  Fly with McDonald's

Sad, sad, tragic racing accident

Tony Stewart was racing on a dirt track in upstate NY on Saturday, August 9, when he had an alteration with 20-year-old Kevin Ward.  After Ward's car went into the wall, he got out and tried to approach Stewart's car as Tony came around another lap.  Tony's car clipped the other driver who then got launched down the track.  Ward was transported by ambulance to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.  Sadness and tears for all involved

missing flags

A church in New Hampshire is LGBT friendly and has a rainbow flag flying proudly outside of the church.  Someone has been stealing the flags.  They disappear almost as soon as they're put up.  But Reverend Eliza Buchakjian-Tweedy simply put up another one.  She reported the incidents to police and also put out the word on social media about the thefts.  The response has been overwhelming.  The church has been receiving rainbow flags, banners, and garlands that they intend to display all over the building.  replacing flags

5 year old mayor ousted

After two terms as mayor of a Minnesota town, 5-year-old Bobby Tufts is unseated by 16-year-old Eric Mueller.  The town has only nine to twenty-eight residents and holds the annual mayor's election as a fund raiser.  Each vote costs $1 and can be made at the local stores.  A name is pulled from the box to determine who becomes mayor for the next year.  Mayor of Dorset MN

Cats everywhere...

Tonawanda Island is in the middle of Niagara River near Buffalo NY.  It has become overrun by feral cats and the mess that it's creating is starting to worry local residents.  Some of the cats come from uncaring people who just abandon their pets while others are being born to strays already on the island.  One woman is trying to make a difference and clean up the cat population.  Danielle Coogan has raised money to get the adult cats spayed and neutered plus get them their vaccinations.  Kittens will be put up for adoption and the adult cats will be released back into the wild because they wouldn't make good house pets.  In the first ten days, she has caught about one cat a day.  feline catcher

picture of bride and groom

A picture taken 20 years before their wedding day was a huge surprise to both bride and groom.  When looking through old pictures they found one with both of them in it; but years before they even met.  Both just happened to be spending time on the same beach at the same time in Cornwall, England.  pic

run over by a train

Two women were trespassing on a train bridge when, surprise, surprise, a train came.  They tried to outrun the train but couldn't so they eventually laid down on the tracks.  The train tried to stop but was unable to do so until it had already passed the bridge.  Both women somehow survived.  train video
