woman calls police about drugs

Lynette called the police, not to report that someone else had drugs, but that her own methamphetamine was not as pure as she would like.  She was so glad when the police showed up to help her.  Not so sure she was feeling the same way after they arrested her.  meth bust

ship found under World Trade Center

When workers were using backhoes to dig during construction at the World Trade Center, they were stopped by something they found.  It was a wooden ship buried in the mud.  Experts were brought in to carefully remove the vessel.  They've studied the wood and can now say when and where it was built.  How it got under the World Trade Center though is still a mystery.  ship

hitchhiking robot

Hitchbot is traveling across Canada and hoping friendly folks will lend it a hand.  The robot can put out it's thumb and will Tweet it's location.  The creators hope it will make a 4,000 mile journey safely.  So far those that have picked it up have been amused by their passenger.  Hitchbot

See the sights

If you don't want to go far from home, you can still see some of the sights from other countries.  The Leaning Tower of Pisa (replica) is in Illinois.  An exact copy of Stonehenge stands in Virginia by the Natural Bridge and in Nashville, you can see the Parthenon without traveling to Greece.  You will have to go to Paris to see the Eifel Tower but Paris is in Texas!  The Titanic has docked in Branson, MO and of course you can always visit the London Bridge in Lake Havasu City, AZ.  The actual bridge was brought over in pieces and reassembled.  sights of the world in our backyard

Mayflies make national news

The mayfly hatch was so big that it showed up on weather radar.  It looks like a storm is forming but it's actually the bugs hatching and flying.  LaCrosse, LaCrescent, and Stoddard are mentioned in the report.  mayflies

Bride's escort

Jennifer was concerned about who would walk her down the aisle because her father had passed away.  After attending Miami, she is now employed there so the Miami mascot stepped up and filled in for Jennifer's missing father.  She walks down a staircase by herself when from the side hallway, Sebastian runs to her side.  He takes her arm and walks her to her waiting groom.  On the back of Sebastian's jersey is her dad's nickname.  escort

legos washing ashore

In 1997, 62 shipping containers carrying Legos fell off of a ship.  Nearly 5 million pieces ended up in the ocean.  And since then they have been washing up on beaches in Cornwall, England.  Some people love finding the pieces and posting on social media about their treasures.  Lego pieces

scheduled on both doomed Malaysian flights

Maarten de Jonge was schedule to fly on MH370 but changed his flight at the last minute so that he could avoid a stopover.  He's feeling very lucky after he was scheduled on MH17 and switched at the last minute for a cheaper fare.  He feels that his story is not important but rather it is the stories of the victims and survivors that should get the attention.  lucky

flower girl

Annabelle, 4, wanted badly to be a flower girl but no one in her family had a wedding planned.  Her mother came up with an idea that might just work.  Annabelle stood outside New York's City Hall with a neon green sign that read, "CAN I BE YOUR FLOWER GIRL"   Most couples just walked on by so mom and Annabelle started asking; one couple declined and another said yes. Annabelle celebrated with a chocolate cupcake.  When Annabelle does it again, she wants to drop the flower pedals.  Cute flower girl

Toddler is a hero

Three-year-old Keith found an elderly man locked in a car.  The temps were rising and the man couldn't get out because the doors had automatically locked. He wasn't strong enough to get them open and without the keys, he couldn't start the car to get the air conditioning running.  He got the attention of Keith and told him to get help.  That's exactly what Keith did thus saving the man's life.  small hero

John Legend celebrates all women

John Legend's video for "You and I" is an amazing tribute to all women.  The stars in his video are real women with just a few celebrities thrown in.  It shows the curves, edges, and so-called "imperfections" of women from all walks of life.  It's a very moving video.  See it here

self serve beer

The Minnesota Twins have installed a self-serve beer machine for the All-Star Game.  Consumers must show ID and can then purchase a card from a vendor that will work in the machine.  Beer is purchased at a per ounce price so even half a glass can be bought.  They plan to have a second machine up and running before the game.  beer machine

It's fake but fun to watch

Leaked footage from the latest installment of the Star Wars saga is fake.  The Franfurt Airport in Germany is not being used as a set for the new movie.  But the 1:13 minute video is a good representation.  It has elements that any Star Wars fan will love.  Check it out here.

an act of kindness

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams switched seats on a plane with a Marine.  He posted pictures on his facebook page.  Great to see things like this happen.  Pay it forward!

superman strength

Bob Renning and his girlfriend noticed flames under another vehicle while driving near New Brighton MN.  They tried to get the driver's attention but it seemed the vehicle had quit working and was on the side of the road before they had the chance.  Bob ran to the smoke filled SUV but found that all the doors were locked and windows up.  Without the electrical system working, they couldn't be opened.  The driver was frantically trying to kick out the passenger side window while Bob tried to get the door open.  Realizing that he couldn't, Bob grabbed the frame of the door and pulled until it bent and broke the window.  He then helped the driver, Michael Johannes, get out of the car.  Now THAT is Minnesota Nice!  rescue

Candy Cab is sweetest ride in New York

Mansoor Khalid is a taxi driver in New York City and he treats his passengers to an all-you-can-eat candy buffet.  In summer he fills the back window with hard candies and in winter it's chocolates.  Passengers are welcome to take all they want.  Khalid started doing this after a tragedy struck his family.  His son passed away with congenital heart failure but he still wanted to make people happy in spite of his sadness.  That's how the candy cab came about.  candy cab

Candy Crush addiction

I admit that I, too, have a small addiction to Candy Crush.  But never to the point where I would feel the need to steal from someone to pay for it.  Paying for a "free" game is a waste anyway.  If you can't beat it or pass a level, then walk away...find something else to do.  One woman from England was so addicted that she stole from her ailing mother to pay for extra lives in the game.  The mother may have forgiven her but she will be spending time in jail for fraud.  Candy Crush

tiny dog...huge hero

Heroes come in all sizes.  Chloe the Chihuahua is only 4 pounds but she saved all four in her family from a burning house.  After smelling the smoke, she barked and barked until all 4 were awake and out of the house.  Chloe didn't make it out and became trapped when the building collapsed.  But an hour later, firefighters found Chloe alive.  hero dog
