Aoshima Japan is an island with very few people living on it. It used to be a fishing community of about 900 people in 1945. Cats were introduced on the island to get rid of the rat population that was plaguing the fishing ships. But after WWII, most left the island for jobs in the big cities. Today the island is home to more than 120 cats and only a handful of people. It doesn't have any restaurants, stores, or reason to visit except for the cats.
